Questions, comments and suggestions:

The first National EcoPort franchise has been established in South Africa. Named 'EcoPort RSA' the enterprise is a registered, not-for-profit NGO; a 'Section 21' Company under the South African Company's Act.

EcoPort RSA is raising funds independently for information preparation and sharing. Importantly, EcoPort RSA has been designated as the information integrating system for the Kopanang Initiative, which is a Private/Public Sector alliance and programme funded by De Beers with matching funding from the UK development aid agency DFID.

It is too early in the evolution of these partnerships to report on implications, but the model is being tested and the parties are learning about the process. This knowledge will be used to refine the franchising framework for the future expansion of this Foundation business strategy.
